Sky Sports: Aston Villa spending spree not finished with new midfielder and defender wanted

Aston Villa are still not done with their spending spree this summer, according to Sky Sports.

Steven Gerrard has already overseen a brilliant start to the window, bringing in the likes of Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara from Sevilla and Marseille respectively.

Sky Sports suggest that the defence and midfield are still areas where the boss wants to strengthen with depth clearly a problem that he wants to address.

Writing in the report for Sky Sports on Tuesday [31 May], Rob Dorsett shared the latest on the window after a blistering start at Villa Park.

“Aston Villa have made a blistering start to this transfer window, with three new players already snapped up,” he wrote.

“And the spending spree isn’t done yet, with Steven Gerrard particularly keen to strengthen his midfield and central defence.”

Big changes.

Gerrard was likely not happy with the end to the Premier League season.

There was too much inconsistency with results, and the lack of rotation most likely saw a burnout within the squad that is never good news when playing against the best.

With Kamara and Carlos already through the door, that is two world-class additions that should already take this side to another level with still another couple of months to go.

Imagine more midfield and defensive options behind a final third including the likes of Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings and Philippe Coutinho – that would be out of this world.

Another striker who can also play out wide wouldn’t go amiss either, so that should be one to look out for.

This could be the summer where everything changes at Villa Park, and there are now no excuses but to go all out for European football next season – bring it on.

In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have received a response after contact was made with Tammy Abraham’s team for a potential move.
