Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard casts eye over Liverpool Champions League final training

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has been spotted watching Liverpool’s training sessions ahead of the Champions League final in Paris.

His former employers face a rematch against Real Madrid after Los Blancos got the better of the Reds in 2018 courtesy of a Gareth Bale brace and they have headed for French shores in preparation for the match on Saturday (28 May).

The Villa boss has been casting his eye over Jurgen Klopp’s trophy-chasing Liverpool squad as the Independent’s chief football writer Mike Delaney shared via his personal Twitter account.

The Villans had the chance to help Gerrard’s boyhood club win the Premier League on the final day if they had managed to deny Manchester City the victory and were 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go but a five-minute blitz from the Citizens saw the game finish 3-2 to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Scouting?

Has Gerrard got his foot in the door to make some more summer signings from his former club?

We all know that he has more connections at that football club than almost anyone on the planet so if he knows who he wants to sign from Anfield, he’ll be able to do so you’d think.

Obviously, we can’t expect to see Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk donning the famous claret and blue anytime soon but we’ve seen Gerrard reunite Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suarez could also reconnect with his former captain too this summer.

It’s no secret that we’re going to have a very busy transfer window with Diego Carlos’ transfer already agreed and Boubacar Kamara already confirmed to join on 1 July.

Calvin Bassey could be the third defender to join in a short space of time if a fee can be agreed but maybe Gerrard’s Liverpool connections could keep the incoming rolling at Villa Park.

In other Aston Villa news, we’ve picked apart Kamara’s all-around game to find out what we’re getting from Marseille next season.
