Calum Chambers shares verdict on Aston Villa clash v Burnley

Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers has given a behind the scenes view of the atmosphere around the club ahead of the Burnley clash.

The Villans travel to Turf Moor on Saturday [May 7] for the Premier League showdown and despite being seemingly clear from relegation they will have added incentive to win as the defender outlines big targets.

With positive results in their last two games, the former Arsenal man is hoping to build on that momentum.

He told the Aston Villa official website: “It’s been a good atmosphere around the place, we’ve been working hard, obviously focusing straight away on the next game in hand.

“We have targets we’ve set for the remainder of the season, so it’s important for us now to work hard and focus on the next game straight away.”

He added: “We had a good result against Leicester, away from home and keeping a clean sheet, and then we built on that in the next game with another clean sheet and a win.

“It’s important for us now to work on that momentum, use that as a springboard. It’s a big game this weekend but I think we’ve had a good week and we’re all ready for it.”

Vital.

It is imperative that Aston Villa finish the season as strongly as possible. Gerrard had a good start life at Villa Park but that has very much petered out of late and he will want to end the season the right way ahead of a massive campaign for the boss, next year.

With each Premier League place they climb potentially earning the club millions ahead of what is expected to be a huge summer, they have to pick up as many points despite virtually being on holiday.

Burnley on the other hand are far from picturing themselves on the beach. The Clarets still have a relegation scrap to finish as they face the risk of dropping down to the Championship next season.

This is the last chance for the Lions’ players to stake their claim in this team ahead of what is expected to be a very busy summer as Gerrard rebuilds his squad.
