Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne could miss rest of season with injury
Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne could miss the rest of the season through injury, Steven Gerrard has confirmed over the weekend.
The Frenchman has had a torrid time since joining from Everton in January and was once again forced off in the 4-0 defeat against Spurs on Saturday evening [09 April].
Digne has injured his collarbone, and there are big fears from the medical staff after he left Villa Park in a sling in what is a major blow to Gerrard and his side.
Writing on his personal Twitter account after the game, Matt Maher of the Express and Star shared the latest from Gerrard on the injury.
“Real concern for Lucas Digne,” he wrote. “Left-back in a sling with a collarbone injury.
“Will be assessed but fears are it could be season-ending.”
Big blow.
This is the last thing that everyone needed right now at Villa Park.
Ashley Young will now likely take his spot for the remainder of the season, with the veteran not likely to stay after his one-year cameo back at the club.
Digne arrived in January for big money with big hype surrounding his name after the club managed to pull off what was deemed a major coup back then.
With constant injuries and lack of form, though, it has been far from successful so far and it looks as though the season will end that way given this latest diagnosis.
All eyes will now be on next season for the French international, who will hopefully get back to 100% over the next few months and come back firing on all cylinders with no risk of injury.
