Lucas Digne set to return for Aston Villa in clash v Wolves – BBC Sport
Lucas Digne is back available for Steven Gerrard when Aston Villa take on Wolves at Molineux on Saturday, according to BBC Sport.
The broadcaster reports that after missing the 1-0 defeat before the international break with a “hamstring issue”, the 28-year-old is back in contention to play in the West Midlands derby game.
It is understood that Bruno Lage will, however, be without Ruben Neves (knee injury) and Raul Jimenez (suspended) for the showdown at Molineux.
Big boost
It’s always good news when a player comes back from injury. It’s brilliant news when a returning player is one of your stars.
While Digne hasn’t had the most memorable seasons of his career this term, the January signing from Everton is easily Villa’s best option at left-back and the team is way more of a threat going forward with him involved.
Digne just loves to bomb down the left flank and get crosses into the box.
Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins are the kind of strikers who’d thrive on Digne’s delivery into the penalty area but so far, the French international has just one assist in his first eight games as a Villa player.
Villa fans will no doubt hope to see Digne add to that tally – and potentially get on the scoresheet for the first time in claret and blue – when Gerrard’s men face Wolves in what is bound to be a hotly-contested West Midlands derby showdown.
In other Aston Villa news, Douglas Luiz could be sold in the summer and Kalvin Phillips is mooted as a potential replacement.
