Aston Villa continue to be linked with a move for Zion Suzuki at Parma.

The summer transfer window looks set to take another twist in B6.

Emi Martinez once looked like he was leaving for Juventus and a new goalkeeper was going to be necessary.

That soon changed and it appeared that the Argentina international would be sticking around for at least another year.

It now seems that the 33-year-old is going to move on imminently, leaving the Villans in need of a new goalkeeper.

Suzuki appears to be the go-to target for Unai Emery and Co. as he has already proven himself as an ideal alternative to Martinez.

There are always going to be concerns when replacing someone as good as the ex-Arsenal man.

He has been arguably the greatest shot-stopper in Villa's history and has been recognised as the world's best twice.

That has left many questioning whether Suzuki would actually be good enough to directly replace him.

Going without Martinez's ability to claim crosses is arguably the largest fear as it is a talent that saves Villa on so many occasions.

That is why Suzuki would actually prove to be a top choice as he proved himself in his last injury-free campaign with Palma.

He claimed 55 crosses in the 2024/25 season, the second most in any of the major European leagues.

Martinez, by comparison, put up 52 for the Villans as the third highest tally behind the Japan international and Joan Garcia with 60.

That can put to bed any concerns at Villa Park and can help excitement build surrounding the 23-year-old.

If the 2002-born talent is the chosen option in B6, he will have the backing of the claret and blue faithful.

It had looked as if he was on his way to PSG this summer as their next shot-stopper.

That deal has now fallen through and Villa are set to pick up the pieces and get a transfer done.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that the Villans are ready to pay around £30million for his signature to match the deal that the Parisians had agreed.

Talks are said to be underway after a formal approach.

It looks as if Suzuki could be set to replace Martinez.
