Three players who could replace Emiliano Martinez at Aston Villa after what Luciano Spalletti said

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez continues to be linked with a move to Juventus this transfer window.

Martinez was not involved as Villa lost 2-1 to Porto in pre-season, as he continues to rest following his involvement with Argentina at the World Cup.

The 33-year-old made it all the way to the final with La Albiceleste, but came up short in a 1-0 defeat to Spain after extra time.

Right now it is not exactly clear that he will still be at Villa Park beyond the summer transfer window.

Villa News has previously covered reports that Juventus are interested in signing Villa's long-time number one Martinez.

And comments from Juve head coach Luciano Spalletti will only stoke the flames more, as the rumour mill continues to go into overdrive.

What did Luciano Spalletti say about Emiliano Martinez?

Juve were involved in their own pre-season clash on Saturday, as they overcame Standard Liege 1-0.

Following that game, Spalletti was asked about Juve's pursuit of Martinez this summer.

In quotes reported by Goal, he said: "We already have two goalkeepers at the moment, we want to add competitiveness and we are looking for another one.

"We’ll see, there are many who will now go and find new slots. Dibu Martinez is one of them, who can probably change club, but we have to work carefully and prudently in the transfer market, we do not have huge scope to spend a lot of money."

Spalletti and Juve are clearly still intent on making their move for Martinez this window.

With that in mind, Villa News has looked at three potential candidates Villa could sign to replace him in Unai Emery's squad.

Zion Suzuki

Japan international Zion Suzuki is a man in high demand following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

The Parma goalkeeper has been linked with several Premier League clubs, with Leeds United having been prominently named by the Italian media.

However, with the Whites looking likely to sign James Trafford - himself linked to Villa previously - that might leave the door ajar.

Newcastle United have also been tipped to make a move, so competition would likely be high, but Villa do have the lure of Champions League football to offer.

Guillaume Restes

Aged only 21, Guillaume Restes would represent an excellent option for the future if Villa were to pursue this one.

Restes has impressed massively in Ligue 1 with Toulouse, and is drawing plenty of interest from elsewhere.

Newcastle have been linked with the youngster in the past, but Villa have also been mooted with a move.

They could offer Champions League football, and if Martinez were to be sold then there is a clear path to be Villa's long-term number one.

Anatoliy Trubin

Another interesting option who has been linked to Villa this window is Benfica's Anatoliy Trubin.

Interestingly, 24-year-old Trubin has been mentioned as a player of interest to Juve as well.

It has been suggested that Trubin would be interested in making a move to the Premier League if he were to leave to Portugal.

He is the sort of age and profile that might be of interest to Villa if they did have to find a new number one this summer.
