When Aston Villa will learn Emi Martinez transfer fate as new price tag revealed
Emi Martinez's proposed move from Aston Villa to Juventus has taken another twist.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has consistently been touted with a switch to Turin this summer.
Despite still being at the top of his game in the Premier League, the Argentine international appears keen on exploring a new challenge away from the West Midlands.
Signed by Aston Villa in the summer of 2020, Martinez has gone on to make 257 competitive appearances for the Villains, establishing himself as a shot-stopper that any European side would be happy to have between the sticks.
Indeed, Juventus have been seemingly growing in confidence over recent days that he would be bound for the Allianz Stadium this summer.
But, a fresh update from Italy may now have swung the pendulum back away from them in their attempts to secure his signature.
How much Emi Martinez stands to earn at Juventus
Earlier this week, a report from Sky Sport Italy claimed that Juventus had successfully gotten Aston Villa's price tag for Martinez down to €6-7million euros (£5.1-5.9m).
That same report stated that Villa's original asking price was closer to €15m (£12.7m), and that Juve chiefs had met with the player's agent in the hopes of accelerating a deal.
As such, everything seemed to be moving quickly and in the right direction towards Martinez sealing a move to the Serie A giants, but now the narrative has changed.
According to a fresh report from Tuttosport, talks between the two camps are claimed to have stalled, and that discussions over a deal aren't likely to be concluded until after the World Cup finishes on 19 July.
In addition to this, the report is also claiming that Villa are asking for at least €10m (£8.5m) for their star keeper, with that being a price Juventus are stated to be unwilling to pay.
This same report also claims that Martinez and Juventus have the framework of a three-year contract worth €5m (£4.2m) per year agreed, and that the Italians remain confident they can get Aston Villa to soften their stance regarding their asking price.
Villa shouldn't be budging from this freshly reported valuation though, as they have no necessity to be left short-changed on Martinez.
Why Villa hold all the cards in Martinez negotiations
Whilst it's true that Aston Villa are continuing to fight a tough battle to stay in the financial good books, they are just one sale away from largely seeing those concerns evaporate.
Morgan Rogers looks set to be sold for a fee comfortably north of £100m this summer, whilst Ollie Watkins is being widely linked with a move to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce respectively.
Therefore, significant funds are there to be raised at Villa Park this summer, and so should those exits go through, the need to cash in on Martinez would drop dramatically.
Martinez is also contracted with the Villains until 2029, and so there's no pressure to sell this summer in that respect either for Villa.
So, if the Argentine is to leave B6 in the coming weeks, then it shouldn't be at a discount rate.
