When Aston Villa could seal deal for 'jewel of Paraguayan football'

Aston Villa still have fresh faces in the back of their mind after a busy summer transfer window.

There was plenty of ins and outs as Unai Emery looked to replace those who had departed B6.

He did exactly that as direct replacements were found for the likes of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers and Emi Martinez.

The additions of Nicolas Jackson, Johan Manzambi and Zion Suzuki have certainly gone down well as they look to have slotted in perfectly.

That isn't reason for the staff at Bodymoor Heath to rest on the laurels as work continues behind the scenes.

Villa are now looking into the idea of signing one of the brightest prospects in South America.

When could Aston Villa sign Mauro Coronel?

It has been a regular theme over the years at Villa Park to sign young talents on cheap deals.

That has most recently seen Keba Cisse come in and play a first-team role throughout pre-season.

The centre-back is seemingly highly rated after his spell at LASK and could soon be joined by another defensive prospect.

Mauro Coronel could be exactly that.

That comes after TEAMtalk reported on Wednesday that Villa are monitoring the 18-year-old closely.

Various English sides have sent scouts to watch him in 2026, with Brighton and the claret and blue outfit seemingly at the front of the queue.

There is good reason for that as the defender was once labelled as the "jewel of Paraguayan football" by Paraguayan outlet VS Sports.

That is certainly a glowing review, but may be a deal that has to wait.

When could Aston Villa sign Coronel?

The 2008-born defender has certainly made a positive impression in his homeland.

He has already made 16 starts this season for a side sitting third in Division Profesional, the top division of Paraguay.

With the Tricolor in a title race, they are reluctant to let Coronel go until their campaign comes to an end.

Luckily for Villa, that could open the door to a January move.

Nacional have just 11 league fixtures remaining, with their last set to come on 29 November.

Should all go to plan, there could be the potential of a winter move in the Midlands.

Villa will need to beat Brighton to land Coronel as the Seagulls appear to be winning the race at this stage.
