Ezri Konsa is edging closer to a move from Aston Villa to Arsenal.

There has already been an exodus of top talent from Villa Park throughout the summer.

Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers and Lucas Digne have already moved on.

They represent a major loss to Unai Emery's side and certainly won't be easy to replace.

Things will only become more difficult if further outgoings go through in the final weeks of the window.

Konsa looks set to be one of those as the England international looks to be on his way to Arsenal.

How Arsenal are progressing to sign Ezri Konsa

The Premier League champions have been on the hunt for a new centre-back for several weeks.

They need an alternative for William Saliba after he suffered a long-term injury blow with France at the World Cup.

The Villa man emerged as one of their top targets and they are now moving closer to bringing him in.

David Ornstein reported on Wednesday that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Konsa.

The Gunners are now working at ownership level to reduce the gap in valuation between the two parties.

That needs to happen before a move can be secured as a Villa Park exit remains firmly on the cards.

Why Konsa is set to let Aston Villa down

The Englishman has been a key part of everything good about the Villans since his 2019 move.

He joined a newly promoted side and played a role in keeping them in the Premier League.

Konsa has since taken strides to become the best defender in B6 and has constantly improved to settle at each level Villa have reached.

Champions League was no issue for him and he went on to play a key role in winning the Europa League.

His letter to Villa fans before the final in Istanbul was proof of how much Villa means to him and how big winning a trophy was for him.

That sentiment has quickly been dashed as just months later he's ready to throw everything away.

Konsa now sees himself as a squad player for Arsenal, which he will be as soon as Saliba returns.

It seems like a very strange move and leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth at this stage of the summer.
