The extra layer of cruelty for Ezri Konsa's Aston Villa exit as medical looms at Arsenal
Ezri Konsa could be set to rub further salt in the Aston Villa wound when he joins Arsenal.
The England international has been linked with an Emirates Stadium throughout the summer.
It had appeared that a deal would be off the cards as the Gunners were miles off the evaluation in B6.
Arguments insured between the two sets of supporters on both sides across social media.
The North London outfit now appear to have won the war as the centre-back now looks set to join.
It is bad enough for Villa that Konsa is leaving, but it looks set to get worse before it gets better.
Ezri Konsa can inflict further pain at Aston Villa
It is extremely brave for the Villans to part ways with their best defender so close to the start of the season.
The new campaign begins away to Brighton on Sunday as Unai Emery's men return to Premier League action.
The B6 outfit are almost certainly going to be without Konsa, but Arsenal could face a similar fate.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday that the Englishman will undergo his medical with the champions within the next 48 hours.
That will likely rule him out of the clash with Coventry City at the Emirates.
His potential debut will then be pushed back a week, to guess where? Villa Park.
Emery's side will play host to Arsenal on Monday 31 August and that looks increasingly likely to be the day of Konsa's debut.
It's just typical Villa, isn't it?
How will Aston Villa fans react to Konsa?
Historically, there haven't been many great reactions to top players leaving B6 for "bigger" teams.
The most recent example that springs to mind is that of Jack Grealish.
His first Villa Park return was met with arguably the loudest rendition of "Villa til' I die" ever heard on the terraces.
That summed up the feeling against the homegrown hero, as many felt betrayed by his exit.
It may be a similar initial feeling towards Konsa, especially if he makes his debut at Villa Park.
Supporters on the Holte End are hardly going to give him a standing ovation if he features and will look to get in his head from minute one.
There may be some pleasantries exchanged after the full-time whistle, but it will be a tense evening for the defender if he is to feature.
