And, as noted by the Training Ground Guru on X, Aston Villa are looking for an individual to step into a South American-specific scouting role.

"You will play a leading role in identifying, assessing and recommending talent across South and Central America, including key markets in South America as well as MLS and Liga MX," part of the job description reads.

So, how many players have Aston Villa signed directly from South America in the club's history?

Whilst Aston Villa have had plenty of players who've originated from South America represent them, rarely have they signed a player directly from there.

In fact, Villa have only ever signed three players directly from this continent, with the most recent being Alysson in January from Gremio.

Before him, the summer 2024 capture of Yeimar Mosquera from Colombian outfit Orsomarso SC.

And to find the only other player to have signed from South America, Villains must cast their minds back to December 2000.

This was when Juan Pablo Angel signed in what was then a club-record £9.5million deal from Argentine giants River Plate.
