Alysson knows exactly what he must do sooner rather than later at Aston Villa

Alysson still has a point to prove at Aston Villa.

The Brazilian is nearing a year since he made a surprise move from Gremio to the West Midlands.

There was very little known about the winger as he clearly caught the eye at Bodymoor Heath.

He was hardly seen from January until the end of the season as fitness issues caught up with him after playing a full campaign in South America.

Getting a pre-season under his belt in B6 has allowed the 20-year-old to be come a regular figure in matchday squads recently.

Alysson may be getting chances under Unai Emery, but certainly needs to prove why he deserves to keep getting them.

How has Alysson performed for Aston Villa?

It has to be said that the 2006-born ace has a very small sample size in claret and blue.

His three appearances last season hardly allowed him to show what he's all about, although he did still manage to impress in flashes.

That has changed already this season as he has already made four appearances across Premier League and Champions League.

His most recent outing came away to Club Brugge as a 68th minute substitute.

Alysson came on to help see out the game and did exactly that with his three defensive actions, two recoveries and three duel wins.

He also took two shots with his only touches in the opposition penalty area.

This was arguably his most involved performance for the Villans so far, and showed what he can bring to the side.

The problem is that it followed a familiar theme for the right winger, which could start to raise concerns in B6.

Why Alysson could put his Aston Villa spot at risk

Having already been around Bodymoor for around eight months, the youngster has the backing of Emery.

The Spaniard clearly trusts the January signing to fulfill his match plans.

The same can't be said of fellow wingers and summer additions Alejandro Garnacho and Ibrahim Mbaye.

They are being bedded in slowly, so Alysson is ahead of them in the pecking order, for now.

The Brazilian now needs to make this chance count by adding goals and assists to his game.

That is the one thing he needs to do if he is to remain a regular at Villa Park.

Everyone associated with the claret and blue outfit knows what he can do and want him to succeed.

The issue is that the Villans have spent a lot of money on other wide options, so the 20-year-old has a major point to prove.
