Chelsea and Aston Villa transfers: How the previous seven moves before Emi Martinez worked out
Emi Martinez has completed a £7.5million move from Aston Villa to Chelsea.
In making the move to Stamford Bridge, the goalkeeper became the eighth player to transfer between the sides since 2022.
That is the joint-most between two clubs in that period, tied with Brighton and the Blues, as well as Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, per the BBC.
Both sides have had to navigate Profit and Sustainability issues and now UEFA Squad Cost Regulations.

Promising youngsters have different fortunes at Aston Villa and Chelsea
Carney Chukwuemeka set the chain in motion when he moved to London in the summer of 2022.
That deal was worth £20m, and he went on to play 32 times for the Blues in the aftermath.
He linked up with Borussia Dortmund on loan in February 2025, before making that move permanent the following August.
Ian Maatsen was the first player to move to the Villans in that period, in a £37.5m deal.
He has featured 91 times and is the starter on the left side of defence after Lucas Digne's exit.
Omari Kellyman moved the other way just a day after, in a £19m deal, but he has not been a success in West London.
He did not make a single appearance for the first-team and has now joined Strasbourg permanently.
Villa loan has not helped Axel Disasi
The next move between the sides was Axel Disasi's loan move in the 2024-25 season.
The Frenchman joined the B6 side on loan, with a reported £5m fee for the temporary switch
He made 13 appearances for Unai Emery's side before going back to Chelsea.
Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan with West Ham and has now joined Crystal Palace for the current campaign.
Too soon to make a judgement on Martinez and others
The figures are inflated by players who have moved this summer and it is too soon to make a call on whether they are a success.
Chelsea broke the British transfer record to sign Morgan Rogers, in a deal that was worth £117m.
He has already notched a goal in the opener against Fulham, but they will want plenty more for that fee.
Alejandro Garnacho then made the move to Villa, on an initial loan, with a £43m conditional buy obligation.
The Argentine has made one appearance so far, for a total of four minutes.
Nicolas Jackson then made the switch from the Stamford Bridge side to Villa Park.
He is yet to feature, but could make his debut against Arsenal on Monday.
Martinez is the most recent, and he has been named in the Chelsea starting line-up against Brighton on Sunday.
