Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney this summer, according to The Times.

The newspaper has reported on its website that the Villans are set to rival Newcastle United to sign the Scotland international, who looks set to move on from The Emirates.

Tierney has held talks with Mikel Arteta about moving on already, although the Magpies are his expected destination for the left-back looking for more football.

Unai Emery is said to be a huge admirer of Tierney and the interest is said to be very strong, but that may not end up being enough for the club.

Ashley Young has recently had his exit confirmed with his contract expiring, and Alex Moreno injured currently, it leaves Lucas Digne as the only other option.

One to Watch.

With unlimited money and the chance to offer Champions League football now at St James' Park, it appears as though Newcastle will lead many races for new transfers.

Tierney has been pretty much anonymous since arriving at Arsenal, and he will be desperate to move somewhere that he can get guaranteed football every week.

With Moreno and Digne at Villa, that appears unlikely unless one of those options move on with the Frenchman most likely given the money he is on.

Newcastle have been using Dan Burn on the left, and despite his success there, an out-and-out international option could move the Magpies forward.

That is enough for them to go all out to get his signature, and it would likely leave Aston Villa helpless as they watch on and hope that they can get ahead in the race.

This is still one to watch, anything can happen in the transfer window.
