Aston Villa lead way for eye-catching Serhou Guirassy transfer as club chief speaks out

Published on

Aston Villa appear to be leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy.

Guirassy has spent the past two seasons with Dortmund, having arrived from Stuttgart in July 2024.

The Guinea international scored 17 goals in the Bundesliga last season - only two others netted more - and 21 goals the season prior.

As one of Europe's most prolific attackers, Guirassy has understandably earned links to multiple clubs across the continent - and further afield.

But it may well be that Villa are at the front of the queue to sign Guirassy from Dortmund when the transfer window opens.

As mentioned, Villa are not alone in showing an interest in Guirassy this summer.

As per German outlet Bild, Fenerbahce and teams in Saudi Arabia are also interested.

However, Guirassy is said to be eager to remain in European football, ruling out a Saudi switch.

Fenerbahce will likely be able to offer higher wages, but the 30-year-old will no doubt know he may not get another shot at the Premier League.

The same report suggests Villa are the frontrunners for Guirassy, who is willing to listen to offers.

The former Rennes and Amiens player has another two years to run on his deal with Dortmund, so he will not come cheap.

Dortmund paid £52million to sign Guirassy two years ago and his stock has only got higher since.

What has Dortmund chief Lars Ricken said about Guirassy's situation?

Ricken has made publicly clear that Dortmund are not actively looking to sell Guirassy - and why would they?

“We have no intention of letting him leave," he said. "He has impressively demonstrated his value to Borussia Dortmund over the last two seasons."

Dortmund understandably are not touting an exit for Guirassy, but all the talk in the media suggests the player himself wants a move.

Agreeing a fee with BVB would not be easy, but it is encouraging to see Villa are not just in the conversation but are seemingly leading the way.
