Arsenal are insulting Aston Villa with latest Ezri Konsa transfer stance

Aston Villa and Arsenal have some serious transfer disparities to iron out regarding Ezri Konsa.

On the eve of Aston Villa's massive UEFA Super Cup final clash with Paris Saint-Germain, talk of Konsa's potential transfer exit continues.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the most reliable and classy central defenders in the Premier League over the past few years.

Having joined in the summer of 2019, Konsa has made 287 competitive appearances for the Villains, and hasn't played fewer than 48 games in all competitions in a single season in the last three years.

A strong World Cup campaign with England only further served to put his quality in the spotlight, and has no doubt helped to draw more transfer attention to his name.

Premier League champions Arsenal have been strongly linked with signing him this summer, but they will have to stump up plenty more cash before Villa even consider it.

With big-money exits for the likes of Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers completed, Aston Villa are in a far stronger financial position now than what they started the summer in.

As a result, Villa will now have more ability to resist transfer offers for their star players, and can play hardball when it comes to getting the price they see fit.

This has now been evidenced through Arsenal's pursuit of Konsa, as the Gunners try to secure his services on the cheap.

According to an update from The Athletic on Tuesday, Arsenal are still interested in signing Konsa before the summer window shuts, and value him at around £40million.

However, Villa are claimed to value the England international at £60m, meaning Mikel Arteta is going to have to ask his transfer chiefs for some more pocket money.

To try and sign - and potentially unsettle - Konsa for £20m less than what Aston Villa deem would be a fair price is absolutely insulting from Arsenal, and here's why.

Why Aston Villa would be crazy to accept discount Konsa offer

Firstly, Aston Villa have now established themselves as a top Premier League side, and will have future title races and domestic silverware on their minds moving forward.

So to hand over your best defender to a direct rival in that sense, and one who still has two years left on his Villa Park contract, would be absolute madness if it's for anything less than a premium price.

Secondly, Konsa is of course English, which is vital for meeting homegrown player quotas in Premier League squads.

Finally, Konsa isn't just an okay Premier League defender, his numbers prove that he's without doubt one of the very best.

As per FotMob, no Premier League centre-back registered a higher pass success rate than Konsa's 95.5 per cent in 2025-26.

Meanwhile, his 61 per cent long ball accuracy ranked in the top 2.2 percentile amongst his positional rivals, whilst he's only picked up one yellow card in the league across his last two seasons.

Konsa has a superb injury record, is statistically the best ball-playing centre-back in the Premier League and has years left on his contract; Arsenal either need to pay up, or take their business elsewhere.
