Aston Villa have been linked with a move for former Tottenham defender, Emerson Royal.

And he's just one of many names to have been mooted for a move to Villa Park as the Villans prepare for another campaign of Champions League football.

Unai Emery needs more depth within his squad, and especially at right-back, hence links with Emerson.

The Brazilian, currently at Flamengo, spent three years at Tottenham Hotspur between 2021 and 2024, where he made over 100 appearances.

Of course, Ange Postecoglou was one of the managers he had throughout his time there.

And the Australian spoke very highly of the defender, providing an insight into what Villa fans could expect if a deal does materialise.

What would Emerson add to Aston Villa?

Aside from the aforementioned depth option, Emerson also boasts plenty of qualities defensively.

His last season in Europe was with AC Milan, where he averaged 7.03 duels won per game, with a 64.1 per cent aerial duel win rate.

In terms of his quality from a technical point of view, he has plenty of it.

However, after his time together with Postecoglou, it was actually his attitude and work rate that were lauded the most by the Australian.

Something which Emery will be a huge fan of given the demands he sets for his players on a weekly basis.

Back in 2024, via Football London, he said: "Emi super guy, great pro again. He didn’t play a lot last year in his preferred position, but you wouldn’t know it the way he trained every day.

"He is the hardest worker at training and really top guy."

What's the latest on Emerson to Aston Villa?

As per reports abroad, Emerson is edging closer to a summer move to Villa Park.

That is according to Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande, who claims that Flamengo and Villa are close to an agreement.

If so, it would see the Villans pay a fee in the region of £8.6million for the defender, which is an improved offer from their most recent one of £7.7m which was looked down on.

It's claimed that the transfer could be completed within the next seven days, though there remains plenty of work to get it done by then.
