Aston Villa have made a surprise move to sign Emerson Royal from Flamengo this summer.

The 27-year-old is best known for his days at Tottenham where he made over 100 appearances.

He has since gone on to be a regular in Brazil and has even lifted a Serie A title and one Copa Libertadores.

That has helped him distract from negativity that surrounded him in North London over the years.

He could now prove to be the man to solve the long-standing right-back problem at Villa Park.

Unai Emery has long been in the market for a new face in that role and Emerson could prove to be that man.

A proposal has been received for the right-back who is said to be highly rated by Flamengo's technical staff.

The Serie A outfit are yet to take "a concrete position" regarding his future after a bid from the claret and blue outfit.

Matty Cash was arguably the best player in B6 throughout the massive success of last season.

After years of frustration and some pretty poor performances, there were calls to replace him.

The Poland international has turned everyone's opinion around, but a right-back is still on the shopping list in the Midlands.

If Emerson were to come in from Flamengo, it would likely be as a backup option and nothing else.

He could be a useful option due to his experience at the top level, but would have to seriously prove himself before ever coming close to being the number one choice.
