John McGinn's status is Aston Villa's biggest question mark for the clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Unai Emery's Europa League winners will face the Champions League winners in the UEFA Super Cup.

The Scottish maestro suffered a knee issue in the pre-season contest with BG Pathum on 4 August.

The 31-year-old landed awkwardly and went for a scan after the match, and the Villans were optimistic about his prospects.

His involvement against the star-studded French side was under question after the injury.

Villa News looks at whether McGinn will make the showcase against PSG.

Why John McGinn is so important for Aston Villa

McGinn will be vital for the Villans if they are to come out on top in Salzburg.

He played 30 times in the Premier League last season, with five goals and four assists, completing 82.4 per cent of his passes.

His underlying numbers were even more impressive, as he averaged 1.17 shots and 1.71 chances created per 90 minutes, according to Fotmob data.

Defensively, he managed 6.26 contributions per game, with 1.21 tackles, 3.71 recoveries and 0.63 clearances.

Emery will hope to have him back, and the chances of that happening may have increased with just over 24 hours to kick off.

Will McGinn be involved in PSG clash?

McGinn is expected to return against the Parisians, after the latest update from training.

An update from Birmingham Live journalist John Townley on Tuesday states that the 89-cap international trained after missing the Bayern Munich defeat.

Alejandro Garnacho also trained, but his involvement will not be as much of a concern as the veteran.

The fact that he has been involved in the session at Bodymoor Heath suggests that he will be available for the clash with the Red and Blues, which will be a huge uplift for the Villans.

His versatility will be a key asset it he makes it, as he can play in the engine room, in a more advanced role or on either flank, allowing the manager to switch up the system, even while the game is in-play.

The B6 outfit will be underdogs in the contest, given the squad available to the Paris-based team, but if McGinn comes back into the fold, their chances definitely increase.
