Why Victor Lindelof will be raring to go at Aston Villa after 'indispensable' scenes for Sweden
Aston Villa's Victor Lindelof has enjoyed another successful spell away with Sweden.
The centre-back started and captained all four Nations League games over the last two weeks, which has seen the Scandinavian country move top of their League B group.
It is a stark contrast to the results seen at Villa Park since the 2026-27 season kicked off, with just one win in five in the Premier League for Unai Emery's side.
Under the Spaniard, the defender has had to bide his time to emerge as a key player.
Last season, he started just 28 per cent of the Villans' league games, while this campaign he has played maximum Premier League minutes.
And now the 32-year-old will surely be looking to kick Aston Villa's season into gear after Sweden's 1-0 win in Romania on Monday.
How the Swedish media have reacted to Victor Lindelof's performance vs Romania
Lindelof is becoming a hero for the Swedish national team, despite suggestions his time on the international stage was nearing an end.
Nonetheless, the Aston Villa defender has been skippering his nation as they have picked up form under Graham Potter.
When it comes to Lindelof's Sweden future, outlet TV Matchen have admitted to speaking about phasing him out of the set-up, but have now changed their minds after the last two weeks.
They nominated the 32-year-old as Sweden's man of the match with an eight out of ten while saying: "Before the World Cup we talked about phasing out Lindelof from the national team.
"Now the Swedish national team captain feels almost indispensable. Played non-stop for four games and barely looked out of breath. Brilliant collection."
Elsewhere, Fotbollskanalen agreed, giving the defender a four out of five, with a review saying: "Didn't put a foot wrong wrong. A rock in defense and won duels in the air and on the ground. Calm and fine in the passing game."
Lindelof's critics are not absent though, with Svenska Fans not as impressed with a performance they have awarded a two out of five.
They believed the Swedish captain was "shaky" at the back, where he is supposed to lead.
However, the overall and majority verdict has been to praise the Aston Villa ace.
Why Lindelof display comes at perfect time for Aston Villa
After entering the international break on a high with a win against Tottenham, and now succeeding with Sweden, the centre-back will be filled with confidence.
Making his performance a resounding positive ahead of the return of the Premier League.
In his display, Lindelof completed 95 per cent of his passes for his nation.
This included four accurate long passes out of five as well.
The 32-year-old also won four of his six duels as per FotMob, with Sweden keeping a clean sheet.
So, hopefully he can now take this performance with him ahead of facing Brentford this weekend.
