Why has Gabby Agbonlahor ripped into Victor Lindelof ahead of Aston Villa vs Tottenham?

Gabby Agbonlahor has been left unimpressed by what he's seen from Victor Lindelof at Aston Villa.

The Villans certainly haven't had the best start to the campaign.

Wins have been hard to come by as the widespread summer changes continue to take their toll.

Those who have stuck around haven't covered themselves in much glory at times.

That can't be levelled at the Sweden international too much as he continues to be a consistent performer in B6.

Agbonlahor doesn't see it that way and has bizarrely taken a swipe at Lindelof before Villa face Tottenham on Saturday.

What has Gabby Agbonlahor said about Victor Lindelof?

There are plenty of similarities between the claret and blue outfit and Spurs right now.

Both welcomed a raft of new signings over the summer and have struggled to make things work since.

Neither have picked up a Premier League win and are now set to face off.

It's clear that Agbonlahor has no confidence in Unai Emery's side after being asked if he is optimistic for the trip to North London on the All Out Football podcast.

He said: "No. Do you know why? Because over the last five years, whenever a striker hasn't scored in 35 games, they score against Villa. Whenever a team hasn't won one in 10 games, they beat Villa.

"We're the team that always gets you off the hook when you're going through a tough time. Spurs haven't scored this season in the Premier League. They'll score, and they'll probably score two or three against Aston Villa."

Most fans would be inclined to agree with that sentiment, but Agbonlahor then moved to rip into Lindelof.

Continuing, "Lindelof made Liam Delap look like Romario last weekend, so I worry about us defensively."

That just isn't fair and is a bizarre way to describe someone who has been a superb asset to the B6 club.

How good has Lindelof been for Aston Villa?

The 32-year-old signed on a free transfer last summer to plenty of reservations.

He has quickly installed himself as a firm fan favourite, even if Agbonlahor clearly doesn't rate him.

Lindelof did struggle at times against Nottingham Forest, but still completed the most passes on the pitch with 62 while also making two clearances.

Delap's goal came from a long-range effort that no one could stop, so that can't be held against him.

His performance earlier in the season against Hull City showed his quality as he put up four defensive actions and a 100 per cent duel success rate.

That is just the tip of the iceberg of how good he's been at Villa Park.

This hit out from Agbonlahor feels totally unfair and just not what the B6 outfit need right now with a massive clash with Tottenham on the horizon.
