Why Unai Emery will be delighted by latest Nicolas Jackson scenes away from Aston Villa
Nicolas Jackson kept up his good form while away from Aston Villa as he scored for Senegal in Friday's clash with Mozambique.
The 25-year-old started the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Maputo in what was Patrick Vieira's first game in charge of Senegal.
He found the back of the net a little over half an hour into the contest, only for Geny Catamo to hit back on the verge of half-time.
Jackson now has goals in back-to-back games for club and country, having netted against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
And it is three goals in his past five outings now as he begins to hit a bit of form.
But what exactly would Unai Emery have learned from the AFCON qualifier if he had it on?
Nicolas Jackson struggles in one area for Senegal
Jackson has a few games this window to continue building some momentum.
Even if his side were held on Friday, he managed to hold up his half of the bargain by finding the net.
That goal came from one of two shots he had on target in his 85 minutes or so on the field.
Jackson only attempted seven passes, but he did complete each of those for a 100-per-cent completion rate.
If anything, Emery will have learned it is fine for the striker to find himself out of the game - as long as he takes his chances when they do inevitably arrive.
One negative from Jackson's performance is that he failed to win any of his six attempted ground duels, while winning only one of his two aerial duels.
Jackson's biggest strength is already clear
Jackson was massively praised for his display against Tottenham.
It was not just his goal, but the manner in which he bullied Tottenham centre-backs Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven.
The former Chelsea striker racked up 42 touches against Spurs and maintained a 100 per cent pass accuracy - again.
Jackson created one chance for his teammates and took five shots, one of those finding the back of the net.
Emery will be pleased that Jackson is ticking over on the international stage, with further chances to add to his goals tally when Senegal face Ethiopia next week.
