Why Unai Emery can now rely on 'very promising' Alysson at Aston Villa

Aston Villa have got a good look at Alysson this summer.

The Brazilian has been at Villa Park for seven months after his January move.

He joined from Gremio and there was plenty of excitement about what he could do in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old was unable to show his best as fitness issues caught up with him after playing a full campaign in Brazil prior to his move.

The upcoming season could act as his perfect chance to showcase what he can do in Premier League.

No one really knows what to truly expect from Alysson, but his showings to cap off pre-season have given a good indication.

Alysson caught the eye vs Borussia Monchengladbach

There have been questions surrounding the winger and what level he is actually at right now.

His injury and fitness problems have been a source of frustration, especially when they seeped into his early pre-season activity.

He seems to have got over those to see out the summer's preparations as he started against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Multiple times the young Brazilian got on the ball and he looked to get at the opposition, rather than taking the easy option.

That certainly caught the eye of Ian Taylor in the commentary box.

Speaking on VillaTV he said: "At full flight, [Alysson] looks very, very promising."

It is that sort of ability that Villa need right now and has been on show whether it be against Monchengladbach or PSG.

How did Alysson perform vs PSG?

It is clear from Taylor's comment that there were some positive flashes of the Brazilian at Borussia Park.

It is all well and good doing it in a friendly, but he also showed that he isn't scared about doing it against the world's best.

Alysson came on against PSG with 18 minutes to go and was able to complete one dribble and take two touches in the Parisians' box.

He added to that with one ball into the final third as one of his nine completed passes.

The winger even chipped in with one tackle, two recoveries and two successful ground duels.

All this smacks of a player who is ready to be given a go in the Premier League, even if it is just as a squad player right now.
