That was a perfect start for the Eagles before he went on to score his first goal in red and blue against Wolves.

He maintained a 100 per cent conversion rate that day at Selhurst Park while also putting up three defensive actions.

That sort of ability to make things happen while also tracking back could prove to be useful for Emery.

Many fans at Villa Park may have written Guessand off, but they only need to look at Emi Buendia to understand how quickly things can change.

This time last summer it had looked as if Buendia was done in B6 after his temporary spell at Bayer Leverkusen.

There were then reservations when he remained and became a regular starter back in the Midlands.

Those 20 goal involvements are more than his past three seasons combined in claret and blue.

The Argentine also found the net with a worldie in the Europa League final to secure silverware for the Villans.

All that is clear evidence of how quickly things can change in football.
