What left a 'bitter taste' in Stan Collymore's mouth in Aston Villa win vs Tottenham?
Stan Collymore had one gripe as Aston Villa secured victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
There is so much positivity surrounding the Villans ahead of the international break.
An extended period away from domestic action is upon us, but the Villans go into that with three points in their back pocket.
That was much needed after a frustrating start to the campaign in the Premier League.
Goals from Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendia sealed the 3-2 win and sparked the away end into song.
There was just one thing niggling at Collymore, even if Villa finally picked up a league win.
What did Aston Villa do to frustrate Stan Collymore?
There was a general lack of optimism within the B6 fanbase ahead of the trip to North London.
Gabby Agbonlahor summed that up by suggesting that the Villans are who opposition teams want to face when they're on a poor run.
That isn't how it played out as Unai Emery got his game plan spot on to catch Spurs out at every opportunity.
It should have worked out to see a 3-0 result, but Tottenham went on to net two consolation goals.
Collymore was left frustrated by exactly that on X, as he posted: "Bitter taste letting them get two late goals.
"Never give the weak an opportunity - reinforce the victory. Make them go into a break having not scored.
"We just shouldn't have let them in, at all, because next time here, even feeling as if they can score against us may mean 3-2 the other way."
It wasn't all negative from the former striker as he also showed love for the B6 outfit.
"Overall, Villa showed the grit, determination and quality when it mattered which bodes well," he added.
"Prem, League Cup and Champions League comprehensive wins now, bodes well. UP THE VILLA!!"
He does have a point on the conceding goals side of things, but was it deserved?
Why Tottenham deserved to score vs Aston Villa
It may be frustrating, but in reality, the hosts probably should have scored long before they eventually did.
Conor Gallagher found the net in the 86th minute before Jan Paul van Hecke netted eight minutes into stoppage time.
That was Tottenham's final shot of the afternoon and one of 19.
They racked up 1.22 expected goals, with their first coming in the 11th minute through Savio.
It was just unfortunate for them that they came up against Zion Suzuki in utterly inspired form.
The 24-year-old made five saves while also contributing three punches and four high claims.
The Japan international was eventually beaten, but it was arguably nothing more than the home side deserved.
It is frustrating from a Villa point of view and is something that needs to be better moving forward.
But for now, there is reason for the claret and blue faithful and Collymore to celebrate.
