Troy Deeney has made his thoughts on Aston Villa summer signing Johan Manzambi clear.

The Switzerland international came in from Freiburg as arguably Villa's star signing of the summer.

Any excitement surrounding his move had died down somewhat due to an injury suffered at the World Cup.

That had seen him ruled out for the opening weeks of the season before making his debut against Nottingham Forest.

He didn't truly get a chance to prove himself that day at Villa Park in a difficult afternoon.

Manzambi has now made his first start for Aston Villa in the 3-2 win at Tottenham, something that has caught the eye of Deeney.

The former Birmingham City man doesn't usually have much good to say about the B6 outfit.

He certainly doesn't have the greatest relationship with the Holte End and probably never will.

That won't be the case this time around as he has actually been massively complimentary of Manzambi.

Deeney has included the 20-year-old in his BBC Sport Team of the Week and gave his performance away to Tottenham a glowing review.

He wrote, "You see why Villa paid the money they did for him. Unreal for Freiburg last season. He hasn't really had any time due to injury but he comes in to the eam and gets one goal, one assist in his first start. Unreal."

That echoes the thoughts of the Villa faithful after what was a massively exciting maiden start for the attacking midfielder.

The opinion of Deeney on the summer signing is certainly felt all around B6 right now.

For a first Premier League start, Manzambi looked to be right at home under Unai Emery.

He featured for 72 minutes in North London and made a serious impact with a goal and assist.

The Swiss star also created two chances while taking three shots at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He always looked to drive forward with four dribble attempts as he wasn't dispossessed at any point.

That was balanced by an excellent seven defensive actions and four duel wins throughout his performance.

There will now be hope that Manzambi can maintain this level and become a true star for the Villans.
