Aston Villa signing Marcus Rashford could get Ruben Amorim sacked at Manchester United, according to Paul Merson.

The Villans confirmed the loan signing of the England star on 2 February after his high-profile bust-up with the Red Devils manager.

The Three Lions ace had not featured for the Old Trafford outfit since the 2-1 Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen on 12 December and Merson believes the decision could backfire on Amorim.

Speaking on Sky Sports (February 3, 12:40 pm), he said: "I think he might be one of them where the Villa fans and the manager will open their arms to him and he will go: I'm going to show that Amorim.

"You bad-mouthed me, embarrassed me by saying I wouldn't get in over a 63-year-old goalkeeper coach. I think he can come back.

"It could end very badly for Amorim - he would be under severe pressure if they keep playing badly and Rashford starts ripping it up at Villa. He won't be the Man Utd manager for long."

Rashford joins Aston Villa with a point to prove

The 27-year-old joins Unai Emery's side with a chip on his shoulder, the way he was treated by the former Sporting boss.

The Villans will be hoping that the United academy graduate can turn his frustration into form by performing on a regular basis.

It may just be a case of leaving the toxic environment at Old Trafford allowing Rashford to thrive again, which would make Amorim look very silly.

If the England international can return to the kind of form that made him a star, he could be a very dangerous asset for the Villa Park outfit.

He has an abundance of experience at the top-level and could earn a recall to the national team set up if he fires the B6 side into the Champions League for a second successive season.

There is plenty of motivation for the player to make his first-ever move away from the Red Devils a successful one, not least embarrassing Amorim.
