Aaron Wan-Bissaka picked up mixed reviews after his first Aston Villa start vs Club Brugge.

The summer signing has come in to serve as much-needed competition for Matty Cash.

It looks as if he came in at just the right time after the Poland international faced a problem before the opening game of the Champions League campaign.

He was unavailable away in Belgium and the West Ham loanee was drafted in.

The 28-year-old featured as the Villans sealed a 3-2 win at Jan Breydelstadion.

The DR Congo international's defending was often suspect as he was dribbled past once and conceded a penalty.

That didn't stop him from putting up some positive numbers as he completed three tackles and six clearances.

He won four ground duels while only being beaten once.

Maybe the travelling faithful could have seen more of him going forward Wan-Bissaka completed just 25 per cent of his attempted crosses and 33 per cent of his long balls.

That is balanced somewhat by his one created chance in a mixed bag of a performance.

Why Wan-Bissaka could be worth his weight in gold for Aston Villa

This is his first start in an Unai Emery side and it will certainly take him some time to acclimatise.

That didn't stop him from putting plenty of work to make his presence felt in the side.

The penalty won't go against him as a handball decision like that could have happened to anyone.

His one-on-one defending could certainly do with some work, but that will come after time on the training ground.

This is the first time in years that Villa have had experienced right-back cover for Cash and it paid dividends against Brugge.

Should he improve as the campaign goes on, he could go on to be one of the better signings the Villans made over the summer.
