New evidence proves Evann Guessand could frustrate Aston Villa more than ever

Evann Guessand has not enjoyed the most fruitful part of his career since joining Aston Villa last summer.

After a slow start to life at Villa Park, Unai Emery actually decided to part ways in the winter transfer window.

Joining Crystal Palace on loan, it was another shot of proving himself in the Premier League.

Despite doing decently, Villa News covered the information that Palace wouldn't move for Guessand permanently.

So, back at Aston Villa and he's getting another chance.

With Morgan Rogers moving on and several transfers being made already, Guessand will have to show something special in pre-season.

How has Evann Guessand fared in pre-season?

After playing at the World Cup with Ivory Coast, Guessand has only just returned.

The attacker was thrown straight into the starting line-up on Saturday, too, as Aston Villa took on an Indonesian All-Stars team.

Guessand actually led the line for Emery, with new signing Alejandro Garnacho starting too.

It didn't start well on a personal note though, as after cleverly making a one-on-one chance within three minutes, the Ivorian somehow missed.

That save didn't stop the opening goal though, as Emi Buendia scored seconds later to show how its done.

Guessand has only scored once since the start of March, in an international win over South Korea.

It isn't due to a lack of chances either, with his last start against Fiorentina in the Conference League seeing him take two shots, with none on target.

Even while still playing, Guessand has a clear issue developing.

Aston Villa issue that Unai Emery can't ignore

Ollie Watkins is undisputed number one in the final third at Villa Park, but Brian Madjo is exploding onto the scene.

Madjo scored his fourth goal in three games on Saturday, as he starts pre-season with a bang, looking for his chance.

Guessand needs to take notes.

With only one goal and two assists in 21 Premier League appearances last season, that efficiency just isn't good enough.

The 25-year-old missed three big chances, and only enjoyed a goal conversion of nine per cent, via Sofascore.

Those stats, matched with Guessand losing possession on average six times per game, prove he simply may not be good enough.

Emery may feel pressure, given that Aston Villa spent around £30million of limited funds to sign him from OGC Nice.
