Is Troy Deeney right about Nicolas Jackson at Aston Villa?

Troy Deeney has revealed what he makes of Nicolas Jackson after his Aston Villa move.

The Senegal international came in from Chelsea as a late summer signing.

His move was certainly necessary after Ollie Watkins made the decision to depart for Saudi Arabia.

He appeared to be Unai Emery's go-to option after previously working with the forward at Villarreal.

The 25-year-old had gone without a goal in his opening two games in claret and blue.

That changed for Jackson away to Club Brugge, but that didn't stop Deeney from speaking up.

There will always be mixed opinions about the attacker after his spell at Chelsea.

He certainly garnered differing reports as he was often seen as wasteful infront of goal.

The same can't truly be said of his Villa tenure, so far, as he has truly been yet to get many proper chances.

Jackson proved that he does know where the net is as he got his first goal for the B6 outfit away to Brugge in the Champions League.

Despite that, Deeney maintained the up-and-down verdict as he discussed the Senegalese ace via CBS Sports Golazo on Tuesday.

He said: "He's got so much more to add to his game. He gets caught offside a lot, he can link up up a bit better, but when you've got a manager that's willing to coach him, teach him and say 'You're the main man.' That's massive for Nicolas Jackson."

There are parts of what he's discussed that Villa fans will agree with, but after his goal and overall performance in Europe paints a different picture.

What do the numbers say about Jackson vs Club Brugge?

For someone who is "always offside" he managed to get away with not doing so for 81 minutes in Belgium.

"He can link up better," but completed 18 passes and created three chances for his teammates on the night.

Deeney is right that he will only get better, but Jackson is already starting from a great point.

The 25-year-old took three shots and got his goal as he also completed two dribbles.

That is only boosted by his one interception, four recoveries and three duels won.

It was a pretty great performance away in the Champions League, but if Deeney is to be believed, Jackson will only get better moving forward.
