Ibrahim Mbaye had another impressive performance in Aston Villa's 3-1 win over Viking on Wednesday.

The Villans added another three points to their Champions League tally, and now sit on nine points, narrowly behind Paris Saint-Germain in first after the victory at Villa Park.

Ross Barkley's header opened up the scoring for the hosts, before Emi Buendia spared his own blushes, dispatching a penalty after missing a glaring headed opportunity moments earlier.

Unai Emery's decision to start Alysson paid off when the pacey winger forced Viking's Henrik Heggheim to turn the ball into his own net just past the hour mark.

The visitors were able to grab a consolation goal for their efforts when Peter Christiansen's fierce volley was initially ruled out for offside, before a VAR check allowed the goal to be given.

However, Mbaye caught the eye after one moment in particular during Villa's big win in B6.

Mbaye had a terrific game in general; however, he was the one who took the corner kick, putting the ball on a plate for Barkley to score the opener.

As per FotMob data, the cross went down as a "big chance created", which had an overall xG of 0.12.

Barkley had a 0.19 xGOT for the effort, which proves just how good a delivery it was.

It was one of two chances that Mbaye created in the first half, as he had a passing accuracy of 93 per cent, only misplacing one of 14 attempted passes.

Because of the 18-year-old's assist and two successful crosses, including the one for the opener, he had a 7.6 rating at half-time after playing just 45 minutes of football.

He later settled for an impressive 8.0 rating after the match ended.

Speaking on TNT Sports 2, Lucy Ward moved the spotlight onto Mbaye after Barkley's goal.

She said: "It's all about the delivery here and Barkley's run. He gets something on it. All he has to do is guide it rather than get any sort of power on it.

"It's a magnificent corner [from Mbaye]."

Alan Hutton added at half-time: "It's such a dangerous ball in, Mbaye there, look at that. Barkley doesn't have to do much just moves a yard and redirects it, but brilliant from Villa."

The stats prove exactly why Ward and Hutton are in the right to praise Mbaye's beautiful corner kick.

Ward in particular made shared positive words about the former PSG man throughout the game.

Aston Villa player ratings vs Viking: Alysson brings the chaos, 8/10 teammate make statement

Should Mbaye be starting in the Premier League for Aston Villa?

Mbaye has played four times in the Premier League for Villa, but none of his appearances have been starts.

The winger has racked up 77 minutes in his appearances off the bench, often causing defences problems late on in matches.

The likes of Johan Manzambi, Alysson and Buendia started behind Nicolas Jackson in Villa's win against Newcastle last weekend, so where does Emery fit Mbaye in?

Well, Buendia can play on the right, and though Alysson played well against Viking, Mbaye is clearly the superior player.
