Aston Villa breezed past in a Viking 3-1 win to go second in the Champions League's group stage on Wednesday.

The Villans added to their points tally in the competition with the win at Villa Park, and now sit on nine points, narrowly behind Paris Saint-Germain on goals scored.

Unai Emery made a tactical tweak at the back to accommodate the current left-back situation, but it turned out to work a treat.

Ross Barkley opened up the scoring by getting his head on the end of a corner from Ibrahim Mbaye, as Emi Buendia doubled the score, rolling his penalty into the corner of the net after missing a big chance moments earlier.

Alysson forced an own goal from Viking's Henrik Heggheim just past the hour mark, as the visitors grabbed a late consolation thanks to a peach of a strike from Pete Christiansen.

Villa have plenty of positives to take, but there were some standout performers in particular.

Alysson has game of his life vs Viking

Alysson only grew into the game against Viking, and looked like a world beater in the second 45.

As per FotMob data, he created the joint most chances in the game with three, and also had the most touches in the opposition's box out of any other player in the game with nine.

The Brazilian earned an 8.2 rating after winning the penalty kick for Buendia's goal, also completing a whopping four dribbles at a 67 per cent success rate.

Not only that, but the 20-year-old won six ground duels and had three games in the match, causing chaos in the final third all game.

Villa certainly have a game on their hands with Alysson, who had arguably his best game for the club in this one.

Ibrahim Mbaye sent statement message to Unai Emery

Mbaye started what turned out to be one of Villa's best performances of the season.

He sent in a great ball for Barkley, who had a 0.19xGOT for the chance, and simply had to hit the target at the very least.

The 18-year-old earned an 8.0 FotMob rating for his display, also creating the joint-most chances in the game along with Alysson at three.

The teenager made four dribble attempts, and though his success rate was only 25 per cent, he kept on going and creating chances.

Mbaye took three corners, making four crosses and had a total passing accuracy of 91 per cent.

Surely he's sent a message to Emery that he needs to be starting in the Premier League now.
