Everything Joe Cole and Alan Hutton said about Alysson after what they saw in Aston Villa vs Viking
Joe Cole and Alan Hutton were equally impressed with Aston Villa's Alysson against Viking.
The Villans beat the Norwegian side 3-1 at Villa Park in the Champions League on Wednesday, rising to second place in the group table.
They have nine points from nine in the competition, and only narrowly sit behind defending champions Paris Saint-Germain, who have a superior goals-for record.
Unai Emery made some big calls against Viking, and one of them was to start Alysson, giving the winger a different type of responsibility than usual on the right.
The Brazilian was lively all game, winning a penalty in the first 45 before forcing Viking's Henrik Heggheim to turn the ball into his own net.
Cole and Hutton have expressed how impressed they were with Alysson's performance, and the stats from the game vindicate the hype around the Aston Villa man.
Everything Joe Cole and Alan Hutton said about Alysson after Viking win
While speaking live on TNT Sports 2 after the match, Hutton and Cole heaped praise on Alysson.
Hutton said: "It’s incredible; he's had to bide his time, but he's a defender's nightmare. When you’ve got someone with pace, skill and composure, it takes a deflection and goes in, but he's so direct.
"It causes [Zlatko] Tripic to dive in and take him out, but I thought his overall game was brilliant."
Cole added: "Beautiful balance is what springs to mind when I watch him. He's not the finished article, and there's so much to come from him.
"It's a shame that he didn't get the goal because he deserved it, and I think he's one to watch."
FotMob's data vindicates their excitement, as the 20-year-old created the joint most chances in the game with three, and also had more touches than any other player on the field in the opposition's box with 10.
He attempted six dribbles with a completion rate of 67 per cent, also chipping in defensively by winning a whopping six ground duels
The winger's pass accuracy was 89 per cent, as he only misplaced four passes out of an attempted 36.
Alysson left the game with an 8.2 FotMob rating, the joint highest-rated player in the game along with Emi Buendia.
Does Alysson keep his place for Aston Villa now?
Well, it's not that simple.
Alysson never usually starts for Emery in the Premier League, and has only done so once this season.
The former Gremio hotshot has racked up 136 top-flight minutes so far this campaign, which proves that he is being used.
However, Emery will know that Alysson needs to play as much football as possible, which is why he may have a better chance of starting matches in the Champions League, especially with Villa in such a good position in the competition.
The likes of John McGinn, Ibrahim Mbaye, Alejandro Garnacho and Buendia all offer Alysson competition for that right-wing spot.
