Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers may have done more to prove him importance to England by not starting against Ghana.

After an excellent season, the versatile attacker is of interest to clubs across the continent, while he is part of the England squad looking to go all the way at the World Cup.

Joining from Middlesbrough in 2024, Rogers has continued to go from strength to strength at Villa Park.

Last season, he scored 14 times and laid on 12 assists as Villa returned to the Champions League, and triumphed in the Europa League.

As a result, the 23-year-old is held in high regard across the country.

With England's opening two World Cup matches now over, the media reactions back this up when it comes to the general view of the Aston Villa man.

What did the media make of Morgan Rogers' cameo vs Ghana?

England would remain frustrated in Boston on Tuesday night, with a defensively sound Ghana side holding on for a 0-0 draw.

For large periods, Thomas Tuchel's side attempted to pick the lock, with real moments of quality few and far between on Tuesday.

Rogers would arrive from the bench in the 72nd minute, making a lively cameo as the Three Lions chased a winner.

Reacting to his performance from the bench, The Guardian would rate him 6/10 in their player ratings, highlighting his "driving runs as England chased winner".

The Independent would hand over the same rating, also praising him for his performance.

"Looked bright when he came on for Jude Bellingham and may well get his chance from the start against Panama," the newspaper wrote.

He did make just 10 touches, but he was able to register one successful dribble in his 17 minutes, while his energy sped the attack up for England at times.

Rogers would complete four carries in his appearance, with one of these reaching 14.1m - a strong number against a side willing to sit so deep.

This idea was matched across the board, with ESPN also saying: "Looked bright after coming on and another that will be pushing for a start after this disappointing England attacking display."

It is fair to say that the media are in agreement that Rogers now deserves to start England's final group match against Panama.

Who could Rogers replace in England XI?

In terms of matches this tournament, England are unlikely to face a side as stubborn as Ghana again.

After winning their opening match against Panama last week, Carlos Quieroz's side were more than happy for a point - the same will not be the case across the knockout rounds.

As a result, it is not exactly a clash to take too much concern from.

But, with a knockout passage all but secured, Tuchel may look to rotate against a Panama side coming off the back of successive 1-0 defeats.

With this in mind, Rogers would surely be in line for a start, either in place of Bellingham, or out on the flank following the disappointing performance from Anthony Gordon.
