Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has started both of England's World Cup games, helping to keep a clean sheet against Ghana on Tuesday.

It is a well deserved opportunity for the centre-back, and while he perhaps struggled against Croatia, he proved his worth against Ghana.

England look to be in a good position to qualify for the round of 32 after the goalless draw against Ghana.

And Konsa will be delighted to keep a clean sheet at a tournament such as the World Cup.

However, that may not have been the case based on one moment during the game.

Wayne Rooney has shared his thoughts on a situation where Konsa could consider himself lucky not to be on the wrong side of a refereeing decision.

While Konsa will be pleased with his performance, he may have ended up being the villain for England.

In the 79th minute as Ghana searched for a winner, England were left scrambling and the Aston Villa man could have gave a penalty away.

Former England star Rooney certainly believes that Konsa was lucky, sharing on BBC Sport: "I think that's a penalty.

"Konsa takes a huge risk. His feet are off the floor when he comes flying in and he gets the man, not the ball. That could easily have been given in my view."

In the end, both the referee and VAR deemed it not to be a foul but it would have been a heart-in-mouth moment.

Ghana may end up feeling aggrieved but the Aston Villa star should consider himself lucky.

If it was given, it would have taken the shine off what was ultimately a fantastic and composed performance from the Englishman.

And he has removed any fears after the game against Croatia.

Why Konsa will feel England place is safe now

After defeating Croatia 4-2, Konsa could have been worried about his spot in the starting lineup, but now, there should be nothing to worry about.

His performance against Ghana was excellent as he saw plenty of the ball.

Konsa took a mammoth 125 touches, while maintaining a 98 per cent passing accuracy with 188 attempted.

Defensively, he won three out of five of his duels and made one clearance alongside one tackle as per FotMob.

Ultimately, he had little to deal with defensively and his role would have been to be a passing option during build-up and avoid any mistakes.

He played that role to an absolute tee, besides that one controversial moment.

Nonetheless, you would expect him to start in the final group match against Panama.

It would be a surprise for Tuchel to roll the dice in a game that is a must-win to secure top spot in Group L.
