Unai Emery will be desperate to welcome Jacob Ramsey back to his Aston Villa squad ahead of a clash against Brighton.

The England Under-21 international hasn't featured since the 2-0 defeat against Liverpool in early November, missing nine games in all competitions.

Despite this lengthy absence, there appears to be some hope that the 23-year-old could return for the upcoming clash against the Seagulls on Monday (30 December) [Emery via Jacob Tanswell].

Given what Ramsey did in the fixture at Villa Park last campaign, the Spaniard will be hoping to welcome the attacking midfielder back into his side as soon as possible.

The Bodymoor Heath academy product has had a rough time through injury during the last year but could now have some light at the end of the tunnel.

This almost directly mirrors what happened in the clash against Brighton last campaign (30 September 2023) where Ramsey came on with over 30 minutes to go.

His 85th-minute strike made it 5-1 to the Villans before Douglas Luiz converted past Jason Steele to confirm a 6-1 victory.

The Englishman picked up the ball halfway into Brighton territory and immediately looked to drive forward in typical Ramsey fashion.

His ability to slow down before unleashing his pace and power allowed Lucas Digne to drive forward and create an overlap option to add some uncertainly to the Seagull's backline.

This opened up the space for the attacking midfielder to cut inside and seek out a curling effort destined for the bottom corner.

That isn't to take away from the quality of the strike given the number of defenders between himself and the goal.

This capped off an excellent showing on his return from injury for Ramsey who had also maintained a 100 per cent pass accuracy while also chipping in with two duels on the day [FotMob].

If the fan favourite can make his long-awaited Villa Park return against Fabian Hurtzler's side, Emery will be hopeful that he can have a positive impact as he did in September 2023.
