Unai Emery will be hoping to put the past behind him as Aston Villa welcome Brighton to Villa Park on Monday.

The Villans were battered by Eddie Howe's Newcastle United last time out, having gone down to 10 men following a ridiculous red-card decision on Jhon Duran, going on to lose the game 3-0.

With the striker now unavailable for the next three matches, Emery will need as much attacking power against the Seagulls on 30 December as possible.

Ollie Watkins could make his return to the starting XI, as too could Leon Bailey who played 25 minutes at St James' Park after missing the 2-1 win over Manchester City.

However, one of the biggest pieces of news heading into Monday's clash is that Jacob Ramsey is back in training and could be ready to face the Seagulls at Villa Park [Emery via Jacob Tanswell].

The 23-year-old has only finished two 90-minute matches in the Premier League this season, and while he only has two assists to his name this term, his return could be crucial for all three points.

Jacob Ramsey to feature for Aston Villa v Brighton?

His best performance of the season so far came against Young Boys in the Champions League, netting in Switzerland with a 100 per cent shot accuracy, completing 95 per cent of his passes and creating three chances [FotMob].

He also completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, won four recoveries and 80 per cent of his ground duels, and also won three fouls for his team.

In his absence, Morgan Rogers has been shifted out to the flank, and while he has still contributed from the position, he is far less effective than when he is causing trouble in the middle of the park.

It was an extremely tough game for the squad against the Magpies, especially going down to 10 men, but Rogers suffered more than anyone, being isolated in the final third.

He only won 33 per cent of his aerial duels, was unable to create any chances or have any efforts at goal and was dispossessed twice [FotMob].

If Duran is unavailable, Emery will certainly be hoping that Ramsey is ready to start and push his team forward.
