Aston Villa predicted XI vs PSG - Unai Emery's Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa plan amid five changes

Aston Villa are hoping to win the European Super Cup for a second-time against PSG.

The Europa League holders are set to take on the Champions League winners on Wednesday, 12 August with 8 pm UK kick-off time.

Unai Emery's men will travel to Salzburg as they look to add another piece of silverware to their honours.

It is a competition that the Villans have won before, albeit under a different format back in 1982.

That saw Barcelona defeated over two legs with an aggregate score of 3-1 to the English outfit.

Emery will only have one chance to get it right this time, with PSG no easy competition, and here is who we believe will be selected by the Spaniard.

Returning World Cup stars thrown into the deep end in defence

Emery has plenty of decisions to make especially seeing as players such as Emiliano Martinez, Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins have yet to feature in pre-season thanks to the World Cup.

However, all three have been named in the squad for the UEFA Super Cup, and with a chance for silverware on the line, it makes sense for them to be thrown straight in.

Martinez will likely be between the sticks, while Konsa should still be fit enough after just a three-week break from football.

He could be joined alongside Pau Torres to form a partnership that has been built over the last few years.

The centre-back pair have played 95 times together, with an impressive 1.91 points per game when both on the pitch as per Transfermarkt.

In the fullback positions, Matty Cash will retain his role, with Ian Maatsen selected on the opposite flank.

Lucas Digne is no longer available as he has now joined Wednesday's opponents.

Unai Emery returns to favoured three-man midfield

In the recent friendly against Bayern Munich, Emery opted to use a 4-4-2 formation, but as seen over the years, he does favour three players in the centre.

New signing Joao Gomes will likely start for his first competitive Villa game, alongside Boubacar Kamara in the base of the midfield. John McGinn's availability is still unknown.

Meanwhile, Europa League goalscorer Emi Buendia will play as Aston Villa's number 10 - a position which saw him score two goals from in pre-season.

Out on the wing, Alejandro Garnacho will get his chance to impress on the right side in his competitive debut.

And due to a lack of other options, Watkins will be deployed on the left wing with Tammy Abraham through the middle.

Watkins will be looking to add to his European account, which has saw the Englishman score 14 goals in UEFA competitions.

Brian Madjo was not originally submitted as part of the squad, but due to the CAS appeal reaching a positive conclusion, he could still be added to an ammended squad.

Overall, that line-up would see five changes from the friendly against Bayern Munich.
