Bryan King feels that Aston Villa have a "big psychological boost" over Tottenham in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.

The ex-Villa scout believes it will now be difficult for Tottenham to catch Unai Emery's side, despite their games in hand.

Villa will host Chelsea on Saturday (27 April), which will put them three games ahead of Spurs after Ange Postecoglou's side saw their matches with Chelsea and Manchester City postponed due to both teams' involvement in the FA Cup.

And King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - feels that it will now be very difficult for Spurs to catch Villa.

"Having the points on the board will be a big psychological boost for Villa," King said.

"Spurs will have three games in hand, which are important, but they have got to play three top teams in those games.

"Not only do Spurs need to beat the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, but they might also need to rely on Villa dropping points in their games, which I don't see happening."

Aston Villa closing in on the UEFA Champions League

Aston Villa supporters can now start to dream of hearing that famous Champions League anthem ring around Villa Park next season.

After Spurs' 4-0 victory over Villa (10 March), plenty of fans might have feared that fourth spot was beginning to slip away from them.

But their recent form will have led to those supporters rediscovering their belief, and a win against Chelsea on Saturday would see Villa move nine points clear of Tottenham.

Suddenly, Spurs will need to beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool just to move level on points with Villa, which will come as an incredibly daunting task.
