Bryan King believes Unai Emery could be handed a bigger transfer budget at Aston Villa after a billionaire businessman joined the club's board.

The ex-Villa scout claims that this is just another sign that the club are moving in the right direction.

As per the Express and Star (17 April), billionaire businessman Michael Angelakis, chairman and CEO of Atairos, has joined Villa's board of directors after his company purchased a minority stake in the club's ownership group.

And King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - believes this can only be good news financially for Emery and Villa.

"Any cash injection to a football club today must be positive," King said.

"I would imagine that Angelakis has a previous connection with some of Villa's American owners.

"This could give Villa the power to go out and spend another couple hundred million, provided they are still able to abide by the profit and sustainability rules, and that can only be a good thing for the growth of the club."

Unai Emery will be hoping for increased funds at Aston Villa

Emery has got Aston Villa on the brink of the UEFA Champions League and will feel as though he deserves to be backed.

It wasn't too long ago that the club were battling relegation, and it is remarkable to see what Emery has done in such a short space of time.

If this recent appointment leads to more funds being provided to Emery, that spells good news for Villa and perhaps bad news for the rest of the Premier League.
