Tyrone Mings picked up a "disappointing" injury as Aston Villa drew against West Ham United in the Premier League, Jamie Carragher says.

The ex-Liverpool star was upset to see the 31-year-old centre-back go off with an injury in the 1-1 draw over the Hammers at Villa Park on Sunday (26 January).

Mings had already gone down previously in the fixture before finally asking to be substituted in the 38th minute.

Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League (26 January, 17:07), Carragher said: "He [Mings] went in for a challenge now with Paqueta. And I thought the fact that he made the challenge must mean he's okay. Disappointing, understandably so. Been through so much injury-wise over the last few years. Have to feel for him."

Mings hasn't had the best of time with injuries over the last few years, and if this knock is serious, it will be a big blow for the Villans.

Diego Carlos has been sold to Fenerbahce in the winter transfer window and the Lions now have a dearth of options in their backline.

Pau Torres may also be absent for a considerable period, making the decision to sell Carlos foolish.

Aston Villa have relied on Mings in recent matches after his return from a long-term injury, and it remains to be seen whether Unai Emery will have to be without the centre-back for a lengthy period once again.

Lamare Bogarde was on the Villans' bench, but it doesn't look like the Spanish manager counts on him as Ian Maatsen came on to replace the injured defender.

The Villa Park faithful will hope the England international's knock isn't as serious as it looked, as they will arguably need him for the crunch match against Celtic at home in the Champions League on Wednesday (29 January).
