Glenn Hoddle shares what he spotted from Ross Barkley in Aston Villa injury scare
Ross Barkley gave Aston Villa an injury scare in the 6-0 win over Fenerbahce.
A first-half effort from Johan Manzambi and a double from Nicolas Jackson had put the Villans in a comfortable position.
The English midfielder then starred in the Champions League victory, scoring a second-half penalty and a long-range effort.
Tammy Abraham finished it off with a late goal, but there was an issue despite the record win in the competition.
Barkley was replaced by Leon Goretzka in the 83rd minute of the Villa Park contest, after a commanding display in the middle of the park.
He went off the pitch and Glenn Hoddle spotted something which may concern Unai Emery.
What did Glenn Hoddle see Ross Barkley doing?
Hoddle, who was working on commentary duty for TNT Sports, spotted Barkley talking to a coach on the sidelines.
Speaking on the platform, he said: “Barkley’s just explaining something around his hip area."
If it is a hip issue that could be a long recovery for a player that has shown how influential he can be for Emery's side, and the boss will surely be praying that the pundit is wrong.
Barkley has previously missed 43 games for the B6 side, and he will not want to miss anymore, especially after his showing against the Turkish side.
According to FotMob data, he took 57 touches in the clash, with two chances created, as well as his two goals and assist.
Barkley completed 89 per cent of his passes, and made six line-breaking passes and three into the final third.
He was only dispossessed once, and drew three fouls from the opposition, while making three of his own.
Defensively, he managed four contributions, with two clearances and two interceptions, as well as four recoveries.
The 32-year-old won three of seven ground duels that he attempted, for a 43 per cent success rate.
He would be a big loss for Emery if he is ruled out for any significant period of time.
They face a nervous wait to find out the extent of the issue, which is such a shame after such a magnificent victory.
