Aston Villa fans hit out as Europa League final tickets sell out – ‘Disgrace’

Aston Villa fans have aired their displeasure following confirmation that next week’s Europa League final tickets have sold out.

The Villans booked their place in next Wednesday’s final in Istanbul with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals.

Unai Emery now has a chance to win the trophy for a record-extending fifth time, while Villa can end their own 30-year wait for silverware.

Freiburg will be Villa’s opponents at Tupras Stadium, which has a capacity of just under 43,000.

And Villa have now shared an update on the ticket sales ahead of the final, which has not gone down universally well.

Villa fans unhappy at lack of alternatives to watch final

Villa were given a rather small allocation of 10,758 tickets for the final. In the club’s defence, there is nothing they can do about that.

The fact the sides are being given a combined 22,000 tickets or so is rather shocking given the magnitude of the match for both teams.

Those tickets are now completely gone, as confirmed by Villa via their official website on Thursday morning.

But for the many more not lucky enough to get their hands on tickets, the options in terms of alternatives are pretty minimal.

Villa News recently informed Villa fans where they can watch the Europa League final, with The Warehouse quickly selling its allocation of 3,000 tickets.

The vast majority of other places are also either sold out or have a limited number of tickets available.

That frustration was reflected in Villa’s announcement, with many saying the same thing.

“Just a shame how massively you’ve dropped the ball with showing it here in England,” one wrote. “Only 2,000 tickets… Can’t be [bothered] to make an effort and find somewhere for the fans to watch it as a whole.”

Others took aim at the limited availability of tickets – again, that was out of Villa’s hands – as they wrote: “10,700 tickets for a final is a disgrace.”

Aston Villa explain why Villa Park can’t be used to show Europa League final

The club would not doubt love to pack out Villa Park for the final, knowing it would be an additional source of income.

Charging for tickets, even at a minimal price, plus food and drinks costs, would help to bring in thousands of pounds.

However, the redevelopment work on the North Stand has put paid to that.

Work is due to begin immediately after Villa’s final home game of the season against Liverpool on Friday night.

It is bad timing, but just one of those things. Hopefully, wherever fans are watching from, they will have reason to celebrate come full-time.
