Aston Villa: What’s wrong with Morgan Rogers? Burnley struggles now becoming the norm

Aston Villa saw the worst of Morgan Rogers against Burnley.

The 23-year-old is supposed to be the talisman and true star of the B6 outfit, but he hasn’t shown it for months.

He has scored just two Premier League goals since the turn of the year after a stellar first half of the campaign in claret and blue.

Those performances have helped land him a regular role in the England squad, but that may be slipping away from him right now.

Rogers was poor against Burnley as the Villans could only draw, leaving many to question what is going on with the attacker.

Morgan Rogers was shocking vs Burnley

The Englishman has a good-looking goal and assist tally for the campaign, but it has been seriously dented by his form in recent months.

There has been a general lack of output this calendar year, and it has certainly begun to grate on the Villa Park faithful.

That was once again on show away to Burnley as the already-relegated side were able to snatch a deserved point from Unai Emery’s side.

Rogers should have been able to thrive in Lancashire, but he didn’t, despite featuring across 90 minutes once again.

He registered just 58 touches and completed just 67 per cent of his attempted passes, which just isn’t good enough.

His zero per cent shot accuracy summed up his performance, with his only effort dragged wide from an excellent position.

The forward also failed to complete a dribble and lost six duels while giving away two fouls, which again, just isn’t good enough.

Rogers has been poor for Villa, and it has been far too long since he has genuinely put in a match-winning performance.

What has gone wrong for Rogers at Aston Villa?

The last time that the West Brom academy product made a killer impact was probably in the pre-Christmas clash against Manchester United.

The Villans sealed a 2-1 win over the Red Devils, with Rogers scoring two excellent goals to seal all three points.

That added to the two he had scored the week before against West Ham and a month before at Leeds United.

Three games in a four-week period where he won points for Villa, and yet now, he can’t even help take victory at Burnley.

The only major change has been all the transfer rumours surrounding his signature and a potential £100million-plus move.

That could well be the issue, though the true problem is likely something less tangible.
