Aston Villa: Morgan Rogers ‘didn’t look right’ vs Tottenham, World Cup hopes now in doubt
Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers may be forced into making new plans for the summer instead of the World Cup.
The attacking midfielder was one of the few big-name starters against Tottenham on Sunday, but he didn’t make his presence felt.
He was just one of many who struggled to make a difference as the away side were able to totally dominate throughout the 90 minutes.
The relegation-threatened side gave the Villans a lesson in desire and determination, going on to seal victory at Villa Park.
Rogers was as poor as anyone against Tottenham, as it seems his place at the World Cup continues to slip away from him.

Morgan Rogers performance vs Tottenham was baffling
The 23-year-old has been genuinely poor since the turn of the year and has failed to replicate his impact from earlier in the season.
That was brutally clear in B6 on Sunday as Roberto De Zerbi’s men were able to totally nullify him and reduce him to a stinking performance.
| Stat vs Tottenham | Morgan Rogers |
| Minutes played | 90 |
| Pass accuracy (%) | 53 |
| Shot accuracy (%) | 0 |
| Successful dribbles | 3/5 |
| Dispossessed | 6 |
| Duels lost | 10 |
That doesn’t paint a good picture as the Villa Park faithful continue to grow increasingly frustrated with his recent performances.
Former Villa scout Bryan King has raised concerns about Rogers’ performance against Tottenham and believes his England squad role is in serious jeopardy.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, King said: “Things just didn’t look right.
“If Rogers looks at his performance, he’ll be booking a summer holiday rather than packing for the World Cup.
“To see your so-called best player struggle to get into the game, I lost count of how many times he gave the ball away.

“He was getting the ball, having too many touches, and then he’d lose it.
“He didn’t have a first touch, and he had no concentration.”
Aston Villa really need Rogers to step up, but performing how he has been recently, that doesn’t look likely to happen any time soon.
Rogers risking World Cup spot with Aston Villa form
Just months ago, it felt as if the Villa star was a shoo-in for the World Cup due to his impressive showings in the Premier League.
He had become a regular and almost looked to be a guaranteed starter under Thomas Tuchel, moving into the showpiece summer tournament.

That certainly doesn’t look to be the case right now, with his showing against Tottenham just raising further alarm bells on the international stage.
King believes the attacker may need to book a holiday rather than prepare for North America, but there is still time for him to turn his form around in the final weeks of the campaign.
