Aston Villa fans divided after latest Alysson injury blow – ‘So sad’

Aston Villa supporters have reacted with frustration after Alysson’s latest injury blow.

According to The Athletic‘s Jacob Tanswell, the 19-year-old has been ruled out with a muscle injury and is not expected to return until after the international break.

While the forward has been restricted to sporadic minutes this season, his creative spark will be sorely missed, especially with Villa currently floundering in front of goal.

Sunday’s 3-1 defeat by Manchester United showcased many of the issues in B6, while Alysson was given a watching brief at Old Trafford.

Now, his setback has been met with a mix of exasperation and dismay.

What have Aston Villa fans said about Alysson?

Villa signed the winger from Brazilian outfit Gremio in January, wrapping up a deal worth an initial £8.7million with a further £1.8m in performance-related add-ons.

The youngster scored one goal and registered two assists from his 41 senior appearances for his previous club, and arrived in the Premier League with a burgeoning reputation.

While he was, of course, brought in for the future, Unai Emery also opted to include him in his first-team squad, believing he was capable of making an immediate impact.

However, after just three appearances in the Midlands, he will now miss several weeks.

“Waste of time and money,” declared one supporter on X. “Typical Villa signing.”

Another shared their sympathy over the unfortunate situation, while it has been argued that Alysson needs a full pre-season at Villa Park before he can be properly judged.

Others were less forgiving, with one user saying: “Another one made of glass…”

Emery has also been advised to scrutinise his own methods in training.

What is certain is that Alysson will require more time to settle properly, and Villa supporters may not get to see the best of the wonderkid until after the summer.

When will Alysson return for Villa?

Alysson has played a grand total of just 47 minutes for the Midlands club this season and will need to continue to be patient after sustaining his muscle problem.

It has been reported that he will miss at least the next two matches, which will see Villa host Lille in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie before taking on West Ham.

The international break will afford the talent time to work on his fitness, but even then, there are currently no guarantees that he won’t miss a longer stretch.

It is hoped that he can play at least some part before the end of the season, but again, Alysson will need patience if he is to truly blossom in the Premier League.
