Amadou Onana to have telling say for Aston Villa vs Manchester United as perfect blueprint set

Aston Villa need their best players to step up when they face Manchester United on Sunday.

The claret and blue outfit have a shocking record against the Red Devils, but away to Old Trafford it’s particularly bad.

Unai Emery is yet to oversee a win at the Theatre of Dreams, with the last Villa boss to do so being Dean Smith back in 2021.

Kortney Hause’s goal made the difference on that day, but it is now time for new stars to step up and make their presence felt.

It could well be the turn of Amadou Onana at Old Trafford this time around, with the perfect blueprint already available to the midfielder.

Amadou Onana must learn from Joelinton vs Manchester United

Man United may be much improved under Michael Carrick, but their last outing proved that they do have weaknesses.

A 2-1 defeat away to Newcastle United showcased that as William Osula’s late stunner secured the hosts victory at St James’ Park.

Former Villa Park favourite Jacob Ramsey was sent off, but Eddie Howe’s side still went on to steal all three points, and they were arguably deserved.

There were many key performers for the Magpies, with Joelinton up there with arguably the most important in the middle of the park.

The Brazilian featured across the full 90 and showcased his industry with 11 defensive actions and 12 duel wins on the night.

That was only made even better by his play further up the pitch, with a 100 per cent dribble success rate while completing four long balls.

These are the sort of numbers Onana can reach and needs to if Villa are to get anything away at Old Trafford.

Onana could secure Aston Villa victory at Old Trafford

Joelinton could act as the blueprint as the Villans travel to Manchester, but they will rely on their Belgian playing out the perfect performance.

The 24-year-old did contribute to five defensive actions, 10 recoveries and one duel win away to Lille in mid-week, although that represents a much different opponent.

Carrick’s men will represent a tough challenge, but getting at them could be the perfect way to change the usual mindset of Villa fans at Old Trafford.

The Villans last won at the Theatre of Dreams with a Hause header from a corner.

It could be a similar story if Onana can showcase his best against the Red Devils.
