‘Unai Emery’s bellowing at him’ – Aston Villa fans blast ‘awful’ Jadon Sancho for what he did vs Lille

Aston Villa loanee Jadon Sancho has come under fire following his display against Lille.

Ever since Manchester United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73million in 2021, the winger’s stock has declined.

The 20+ goal contributions a season in Germany were replaced by just 12 goals in 83 appearances at United. A falling out with former Old Trafford manager Erik ten Hag didn’t help, either.

Despite showing signs of positivity on loan at Chelsea last season, the Blues decided to pay a £5m penalty to the Red Devils just to avoid signing him.

Sancho was handed a rare start for Villa in their 1-0 Europa League win at Lille on Thursday and although he had some plus points in the game, some fans weren’t happy with him.

Jadon Sancho fails to shine again

Unai Emery gave Sancho a starting role against the French side but it seems some Villa fans don’t want a repeat of that for the return leg at Villa Park.

In his 83-minute outing, Sancho had a passing accuracy of 85 per cent, he made one key pass, and had a Sofascore rating of 6.8.

Conversely, he was nought for one on crosses, Sancho was caught offside once, he lost possession on 10 occasions, and he was at 50 per cent for his dribbles. And on social media, his performance drew the ire of some watching fans.

One fan tweeted: “We’re never getting 19/20 Sancho back,” and another wrote, “One goal and one assist in nearly 30 games. Bro is so [expletive] that nobody even cares anymore.”

Despite that criticism, Villa took one step towards reaching the Europa League quarter-finals thanks to Ollie Watkins’ second-half header.

Emery’s team will hope to get the job done next Thursday in the second leg, with the winner facing either Bologna or Roma in the last eight.

Sancho faces uncertain future away from Aston Villa

In recent years, Sancho appears to be proving that he is not best suited for the rigours of the Premier League and questions have been raised about his attitude and application.

The England international is turning 26 later this month and this summer, he will be a free agent when his United contract expires.

Sancho was once viewed as one of England’s most promising youngsters. Now, many feel his career is spiralling out of control.

Jadon Sancho Aston Villa stats

Two goal contributions for Villa is just not good enough. The Villans are trying to secure Champions League football next season and an experienced player like Sancho should be providing more for his team.

Sancho could head back to Dortmund for a third spell, after his loan stint in 2024, as he seeks to breathe new life into his faltering career.

When this season ends, few Villa fans will bemoan his exit.
