Morgan Rogers responds to Chelsea agreement as Stamford Bridge transfer rumours continue

Morgan Rogers has reacted as Reece James agreed a new contract at Chelsea.

Speculation has been heavily fueled over the last few months connecting Rogers with an exit from Aston Villa, and in particular, a move to Chelsea.

Liam Rosenior’s side have shown interest in the Englishman on more than one occasion, with the expectation that they could make an approach come the end of the campaign.

However, for now, the focus has been on Chelsea retaining their current stars, having now tied James down to a new six-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

The right-back announced his extension via his personal Instagram account on Friday, with Rogers liking the post.

What do we know about Chelsea’s interest in Morgan Rogers?

Chelsea aren’t the only side to have shown an interest in Rogers, though that should come as no surprise given the form he has showcased this season.

The 23-year-old has 10 goals and seven assists across all competitions this campaign, having had a direct involvement in 27 goals for the Villans last season.

While interest from the Blues is understandable, it remains to be seen whether they are willing to stump up the level of cash that is likely to be required this summer.

Rogers signed a new deal back in November, which will keep him at Villa Park until 2031, meaning that the Villans are well-placed to get a big fee should they look to sanction his exit.

Ollie Watkins’ prediction could come true for Rogers this summer

While Villa supporters will not want to see any offer for Rogers be entertained, Ollie Watkins has already mooted an exit for his teammate.

Back in January, he said: “He can play in the best teams in the world. I won’t be surprised if one day he ends up at Real Madrid or something like that.”

While that statement is certainly true based on the quality he has showcased since he made the move to Villa Park in 2024, Watkins’ comments didn’t go down well.

However, with interest likely to grow stronger as we approach the summer transfer window, that prediction could end up coming to fruition, which would be a major blow to the Villans, to say the least.
